Early Life

Born on West 6 Mile of Detroit, September 18, 1995. Aliyah is youngest of two daughters. Her mother is a nurse and her father is a mechanic. Both of her parents are originally from the East Side of Detroit. However, her family roots are from the South: Louisiana Creole, Tennessee, and Florida.  She witnessed her parents work long hours to afford to move her family to Southfield, a surrounding Metro-Detroit suburb, for a safer community and better education. Her parents later divorced during the 08' Financial Recession. As a first-generation suburbanite it was a humbling experience to witness the poverty and unsafe conditions of the hood while visiting family, attending church, and going to hair salons in Detroit on a weekly basis, while simultaneously witnessing the benefits and beauty of a middle class lifestyle. This complex experience created a very culturally inclined, and self-driven young lady.

Aliyah Marie began singing at the age of 3 after watching Diana Ross sing during a TV commercial. Instead of playing during recess in elementary, Aliyah was known for performing songs on the black top. She continuously joined choirs and dance teams at school and church soon after. Aliyah's talent is a GIFT of lineage. Her late-grandmother was an opera singer in France. Although naturally brilliant, Aliyah was not a privately trained muse in music. . She learned how to write, sing, produce, and record through practice and dedication. From the moment she began self-recording original songs and mixtapes in high school, she knew music was her passion in life.

Young Adulthood &Education

Aliyah was a top athlete during high school, captain of her volleyball and softball team. Her first job was a model for Abercrombie & Hitch. She began print and runway modeling at 16. In her first pageant, Aliyah won 3rd Runner up Miss Teen Michigan 2013 and won 1st Place in Scholarship and 1st Place in Talent.

She graduated high school number one in her class as Valedictorian Summa Cum Laude. Aliyah was accepted into four schools at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor: College of Literature Science & Arts, Ross School of Business, College of Engineering, and School of Music Theater & Dance. A woman of many talents and intellects, Aliyah decided to focus on her opportunity to study music technology and voice, and train with the best music professors in the country. It was an honor to be the only woman and the only Black person accepted in her Performing Arts Technology department’s graduating class. She studied both classical, jazz, and audio engineering techniques. Although, she had a rough college experience she is grateful for the lessons she learned about faith, loyalty, and passion.

Aliyah’s work experience includes broadcasting. She produced segments as an associate producer and journalist on NPR (National Public Radio) WDET 101.9 FM Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson, Pulitzer Prize Winner columnist from Detroit Free Press. She later had her own show on Detroit's FM 88.1 W.H.P.R ,"Model’s N’ Mixtapes", to high- light Detroit’s HipHop, R&B, and fashion culture.
